Dominic CHoi

Dominic, founder of MAO, has gained his professional qualifications include: Macau Registered architect, UK Registered architect ARB UK and RIBA UK member.

 

Dominic Choi has achieved both his Bachelor Degree in Architecture and Master Degree in Urban Design from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College of London in 2001.  He has gained his Bachelor Degree of Arts in Architecture (with honour) from the Liverpool John Moores University in 1998.  


Dominic has been working with different international architects, such as Foster and Partners in London; Shin Takamatsu, Niken Yamamoto, Furuichi and Associates in Japan as well as in Lisboa and China before he joined Joy Choi Arquitecta in Macau, and has later became a Partner and Design Director for 11 years. Dominic began his teaching career as a ‘Visiting Professor’ at The University of Saint Joseph in Macau.

Dominic has extensive experience working on different projects range, many of his design  has been built and completed locally, this includes Public building such as Ho Tung Library; the Department of Transportation and Building, Institutional building such as Our Lady Fatima Girls’ School, St. Rosa de Lima School (Chinese Section) and (English Section), Helen Leung Nursery, Infrastructure projects such as the eleven Light Railway Transit Stations, as well as other private projects including residential, mix use and commercial of various scale.

Dominic’s architectural work has been recognised and awarded.

  • "1995 and 1996 Art in Architecture Award" presented by Liverpool JM University.

  • "2012 Chinese Housing and Settlements monomer Residential Design Award" presented by the World Association of Chinese Architects.

  • "2013 and 2014 National architecture award Habitat classic scheme" presented by the Chinese Institute of Architects in China.

  • Fountainside Residence – “2014 Inaugural Architecture Asia Awards” for Emerging Architects
